Cute And Easy Halloween Hairstyles For Kids

I am not one of those mothers that can do wrap-around Heidi-style braids or ones that seem to effortlessly twist and turn around my child’s head. No. We are a simple plait kind of a house – maybe a French plait if I have lots of time, patience and she sits still long enough. Definitely nothing fancy! So when my daughter came home with a request for a spider bun like her friend had rocked up with, I panicked!

Having now come out the other side of the Halloween hair drama, I wanted to share some of the other fun Halloween hairstyles that your kids will love.

1. Braided Cat Ears

You can make Braided Cat Ears follow these steps:

Steps:

  1. I began by sectioning off two small square sections of hair on either side of the middle part line, and secured them with an elastic band.
  2. For the first ear, I then took two black pipe cleaners, twisting them together, and then braided the two pipe cleaners as the “third” strand of a 3-strand braid.  Secure with another elastic band.
  3. Then, take the finished braid and bend it into a point in a spot that looks good to you, and continue on to fashion the kitty cat ear. Finish the ear by wrapping the end of the braid around the original base, which secures itself because of the pipe cleaners.
  4. Repeat the same step on the other side.

While finishing this style, we also suggest that you can use red pipe cleaners to create devil horns if you wish to be a Little Red Devil for Halloween!  Similar braiding with different colored pipe cleaners can help you create Minnie Mouse ears, puppy ears, bunny ears, piglet ears, and on and on!!!

We hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and I think that it turned out very cute!

By the way, this was my absolute photo out of all the shoot!  Little CGH#4 certainly has her own personality, and as this photo and the video point out… she does what she wants to do!  And, we are OK with that!!!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 4 hair elastics, 4 long black pipe cleaners, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 5-7 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

2. Spider Hairstyle

Princess Piggies used little plastic spider rings, threaded through plaits, to create a spooky Halloween hairstyle that will thrill little kids!

I tried this with normal plaits (and French) and it worked well – having a long-handled comb helped to pull the hair through the spider rings.

This spider bun from Simple As That is fantastic and was the original request from my daughter!

Using just pipe cleaners, hair clips, a black pom pom and some googly eyes, this is a really effective (and fun!) look – and one of our favourite halloween hairstyles!

3. Pumpkin Hairstyle

A little coloured hairspray can transform a bun into a little pumpkin! Follow the step-by-step instructions over on Infarrantly Creative.

4. Witch style

Why not add some kid-friendly color streaks for witchy fun? Color chalk and color shots are one of the biggest kids’ hair trends this year and they come out in 2 to 4 washes. Glitter strands and feathers may also add to the Halloween costume hair enhancement. Add a dab of Snip-its Funny Frizz Fix’r Smoothie Crème to get the sleekest, witchy-est styles.

No witch style is complete without a pointed hat, which is why this Kids Witch Hat With Hair is the perfect accessory for any aspiring sorceress of the night! This witches hat features the iconic wide-brim and pointed top shape, with attached realistic long grey hair strands for an extra touch of spooky. Go all out this Halloween with Spotlight's scary range of costumes and accessories.
